Potency

Potency: range of doses over which a chemical produces increasing responses. In a series of congeners several chemicals may have similar effects and have a similar efficiacy (see this), but different doses are needed for the same response. For instance 1 µg/kg of 2,3,7,8-TCDD may have the same effect as 10 µg/kg of 1,2,3,4,7,8-HxCDD, i.e. the former is 10-fold more potent than the latter.[1]
