Scope
Socio-economic status describes the socio-economic status of individuals as background information.
Definition
Socio-economic status is represented either as a continuous or as a discrete variable.
If continuous = number of years of schooling received. Socio-economic status for children younger than 18yr is equivalent to parental educational level.
If discrete = low, medium and high.
Socio-economic status is indexed by variable age. It applies to all four age categories and to all indicators.
